Obituary for George Murray

1948 – 2019
The family of George Lynn Murray are saddened to announce his peaceful passing at Hospice House Fredericton surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the age of 71. George was born in Plaster Rock on September 19, 1948 the son of the late Simon and Helen (Smith) Murray.

In addition to his loving wife Eleanor (Hansford) Murray, he leaves behind his two sons (Michael and Adam), of Fredericton; step-son Christopher Roze (Heather) and step-grandson Arthur of Prince George, BC; a sister Marjorie of Fredericton; sisters-in-law Barb (Murray) of Plaster Rock and Irene (White) of Yarmouth, NS and brother-in-law Dick (Sabourin) of Fredericton. He is also leaving behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by an infant daughter (Summer Dawn); brother Ivan of Plaster Rock; sister Leah of Fredericton; and his parents-in-law, Jack and Zelda Hansford, of Yarmouth, NS.

After graduating from Tobique Valley Regional High School and attending the New Brunswick Institute of Technology (Accounting) George worked in Sales for most of his career with Coca-Cola Bottling in Fredericton. George was an avid participant and fan of many sports including hockey, baseball, basketball and golf. George loved working on his property in Lower St. Mary’s and was a great handyman, a talent which he inherited from his father and the Murray clan of wonderful carpenters. He was a great friend to many, loved his family and was loved in turn by them and he was proud of his boys and their accomplishments.

In keeping with George’s wishes a Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 4, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Hall, 75 Main Street, Fredericton (North Side) from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors, diabetic clinic, dialysis staff and especially the Hospice House staff for the excellent care provided to George.

In lieu of flowers and for those who wish to do so donations may be made to Hospice House Fredericton or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
