Obituary for Wendell Scott

1928-2019
Wendell E. Scott, 91, of Salmon Beach, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst. Born in 1928, he was the son of the late Eldon and Margaret (Payne) Scott of Stonehaven.

Wendell will be sadly missed by his four daughters: Beverley Ring (Stephen) of Riverview, Ethel Daley (Laurie) and Karen Daley (Steve) both of Bathurst, Shana MacKenzie (Bruce) of Ottawa and his two sons: Bruce (Ann) of Salmon Beach and Keith (Karen) of Belledune; grandchildren: Todd, Scott, Jennifer, Robin, Timothy, Audrey, Allison, Douglas, Christopher, Robbie, Kendra and Kristie; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Taylor, Katelyn, Carmen, Isaiah, Tristen, Brandon, Tyler, Chloe, Kyle, Travis, Dawson, Isaac, Morgan, Pascal, Katelyn, Ethan, Max, Kyle, Shayne, Cole, Kross, and Kavanaugh. He is also survived by his sisters: Clottie Ellis, Alice Jagoe, Eileen Jagoe (Arthur) Lela Branch (Percy) and brothers Earl (Bernice) and Dave; sisters-in-law: Elna Scott, Hazel McClennin, Thelma Knowles (Lance) and brother-in-law Merle Ellis (Nora).

In addition to his parents, Wendell was predeceased his wife, Mabel (Ellis) Scott; son, Gary; grandchildren: Rillen Daley and Christopher Scott; brothers: Jim and Rodney and sisters: Grace and Rena.

Wendell retired from the former Consolidated Bathurst Paper Mill after many years of service as an electrician. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

Throughout his life, Wendell was an active member of his community. He volunteered countless hours at First United Church in Bathurst and Central United in Clifton in a variety of positions, including leader of youth groups and member of the session and many other committees. Wendell was a loyal member and past master of St. John Masonic Lodge #27 and the North Shore Shriner’s Club.

Wendell will be fondly remembered as a person with a strong commitment to always “being there” for his family and friends; having a keen appreciation of the beauty and wonder of nature; and, having the wisdom to spend time relaxing at the camp, on the beach or sailing on the Bay Chaleur with his friends and family. Throughout his life, Wendell was an avid reader of good books and newspapers and a keen competitor when playing card games and Scrabble. He had an inquiring mind, a desire to be well-informed and strong opinions about many issues; with political issues being what he loved to debate with any willing, and sometimes unwilling, opponent.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for Wendell at the Chaleur Regional Hospital over the years.

The family would like to express a very special thank you to the folks at Southern Comfort Villa for the excellent care that Wendell received during his stay with them.

Funeral service was held on Friday, November 1st at Central United Church, Clifton.

If so desired, donations in memory of Wendell, may be made to the Shriners Transportation Fund, Central United Church or a favorite charity.
