Obituary for Alton Schriver

Alton Roy Schriver of Rossville, NB passed away unexpectedly on November 3, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Alton was born at Temperance Vale, NB on January 23, 1949, a son of the late Roy and Waneta (Thornton) Schriver.

Alton was known to be a quiet man, and loved spending time with his family, friends, and special dogs. He was giving and supportive, and would lend a helping hand whenever he could.

Alton also loved the great outdoors, and took every opportunity to hunt, fish, and explore wood roads. His broad work career started at 16 years old, and some of his jobs were with Atlas Construction, Dexter Construction, Dead River Ltd., Northern Roofing, Northern Pulp Mill, Parsons & Whitmore, St. Anne Pulp and Paper, and AV Nackawic. Health issues occasionally kept him from work, but he always found a way to return.

His “special” laugh will be missed by all of us.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne (Hallett) Schriver; children, Larry Schriver (Kayla), Tammy Morrell (Wyatt) and Mary Kim Schriver; grandchildren, Jenna (Josh), Sarah, Christian, Ashtyn, and Tyson; siblings, Janice Bragdon (Lee), Wesley (Angela) and Phillip (Faye); aunts, Gwen Christie, Deloris Kaley, Edith Lyons (Wilson), Pat Thornton and Vesta Thornton; uncles, Arden Thornton (Marguerite) and Delmont Thornton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law in the Hallett family, Clarence Hallett (Jan), Howard Hallett (Lesley), Robert Hallett (Carol), Elisabeth Hallett, Marguerite Fawcett (Ellis), Murray Hallett (Rhonda) and James Hallett Jr. (Julie); several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by aunts and uncles, Austin Christie, Noreen McLellan (late Len), Merlin Kaley, Hanford Brewer, Alden Thornton, Gerald Thornton, Lorraine Thornton, Zenas Thornton, Vernon Thornton (late Evelyn and late Sandra), Samuel Bates (late Bertha), Eldon Schriver (late Susan), Angus Schriver (late Alma), Wesley Schriver (late Lillian), Cora Wilcox (late Don), Lena McKinney (late Vaughan), Ethel Schriver (late Charles), Cedric Schriver (late Nevella), Mavis Schriver and Mary Cliff (late George); parents-in-law, James and Dorothy Hallett; two sisters-in-law, Jamalane Drost (late Gordon) and Barbara Steele.

Visitation will be held at Maple Ridge Wesleyan Church, 1125 Route 605, Maple Ridge, NB on Wednesday from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 2 pm from the church with Rev. Wayne Schriver and Rev. Mike Agrell officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the Temperance Vale Cemetery.

For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Alton, the family has suggested the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or Louise Breau Memorial Medical Trust Fund.
