Obituary for Eugene "Pete" Mockler

With heartfelt sadness, the family announces the sudden passing of Pete Mockler, age 83, on November 10, 2019, surrounded by his family at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of his wife of 61 years, Doris E. (Clark) Mockler, and cherished father to his children Gary Mockler; Andy Mockler (Liza); Alan Mockler (Sophie); Jo-Anne Mockler-Leblanc (Allan); and a very proud grandfather of Alex, Alyssa, Alex, Matthew, and Andrew, all from Fredericton. He will also be missed by three brothers, several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Pete was born on December 31, 1936 in Grand Falls, NB. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Blanche (Cyr) Mockler.

Pete was a life member of the New Brunswick Law Society, and immensely enjoyed the 60 years he spent practicing law. He was very passionate about it, and was still working at the time of his passing. He pleaded at every level of Courts in New Brunswick; Prince Edward Island; Nova Scotia; Ontario, as well as at the Supreme Court of Canada.

His University education began at the University of New Brunswick, where he received his law degree. He was also a great athlete and was the captain of the UNB Hockey team, and played baseball, tennis, downhill skiing and water skiing. He then went on to complete his Masters in Law, with a special interest in tax law, at the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, on a full scholarship. During his long career as a lawyer, he also taught law courses at UNB.

Pete was a phenomenal business man, and was the Senior Partner with E. J. Mockler Professional Corporation. He was an avid reader and loved history, but above all else, he was a family man. He loved to spend time with his wife and children, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching them grow up, and taught them many valuable life lessons. Time at the cottage, at Magaguadavic Lake with family and friends was especially treasured.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at Kingswood Lodge, 31 Kingswood Park on Sunday, November 17, 2019, from 1 pm to 4 pm, with words of remembrance happening around 2pm, lead by Rev. Ellen Beairsto, with the eulogy by his niece, Dr. Donna Mockler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Pete’s memory may be made to one of the many charities Pete supported in his lifetime, his favorite ones being University of New Brunswick, the IWK, and the SPCA; or donations to a charity of your choice in Pete’s memory would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam’s Funeral Home and online remembrances may be left privately at www.mcadamsfh.com.
