Obituary for Clifford Pike

Randy has boarded the train to his next destination.

With incredible sadness, Randy’s family announces his death at the Palliative Care Unit at the SJRH on Thursday, November 14, 2019. He was the first born son of Clifford and Mavis (Bowering) Pike, born February 7th, 1954 in Bay Roberts, NL.

Randy grew up in Goose Bay, Labrador. He curled, played hockey, and skied in the winters. In summers he sailed, played baseball, and was a lifeguard. As a Boy Scout his fondest memory was flying in a Hercules transport to a scout jamboree in NWT in 1968. While there he and a fellow scout were chased by a bear.

He moved to Wabush where he met, married Josie and started a family. They later moved to NB in 1984 and settled in Westfield. He worked for Ron’s Discount for a number of years before becoming owner/operator of Hutchinson’s appliance until ill health forced him into early retirement.

Randy had several interests...model trains, he was an active member of the Saint John Model Railroaders; cameras/photography, fly tying, camping, and movies/documentaries. He always enjoyed a campfire on Westfield beach.

His wit and his humour were well known amongst his friends. He never let ill health defeat his spirit. He always found the funny in the moment. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh.

He leaves to mourn his best friend and loving wife of 45 years, Josie; son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan (Priscilla), AB; the light of his life …his only grandson Caél; two sisters, Sharon (late Berrick) Williams of Labrador; Debra (Andy) Castle, of BC; brother, Rodney (Carol Sullivan) of ON; father-in-law, Roy Neil (Pat Seeds) of Saint John; several aunts, uncles; special aunt & uncle, Verna and Melvin Pike of NL, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Loraine Neil, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alice and Will Dean.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Following cremation, visitation will be held on Sunday November 17th at 9 Scenic View Lane, Grand Bay-Westfield from 2:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A celebration of Randy’s life will be held at Westfield United Church, 133 Nerepis Road, Grand Bay-Westfield on Monday, November 18th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the St. Giles Room. Private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Randy’s memory can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
