Obituary for Robert Hicks

With his family at his side, Robert Duncan Hickes passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the St. John St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on November 20, 1933 he was the son of the late Herbert and Elizabeth (McIntyre) Hickes.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Connie (Loeman) Hickes, second wife Mona (Helm) Hickes; son Wade Hickes; brother Herbert Hickes; son-in-law Michael Andrews.

Bob was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy for 25 years as a petty officer and a journeyman machinist. He worked as a social worker at Ridgewood for 20 years, retiring in 1998. Bob was a long-time friend of Bill W. He enjoyed playing darts in his younger years for city and district dart leagues. Bob loved hunting, fishing and watching sports.

He is survived by his children Robert Hickes (Christine), John Hickes (Chrissy), Cindy Andrews, Terry Hickes, Bonny Cormier (Robert), Vickey Barry and Blaine Hickes (Jana); step-daughter Kim Wilson (Jamie); brother Scott Hickes; sister Sharon Greer; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Thursday, November 21 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. His celebration of life will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 22 at 11 am., followed by a reception.

Remembrances in memory of Bob may be made to Romero House Soup Kitchen or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
