Obituary for Reta Mercer

It is with great sadness that the family of Reta May (Humphrey) Mercer, age 104, of Norton, NB, wife of the late Clarence Mercer, announces her death which occurred on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, NB. Reta was born on September 14, 1915 in Mercer Settlement, NB, the daughter of the late Herbert and Amelia (Coleman) Humphrey.

Reta is survived by her daughter Shirley Freeman of Dartmouth, NS, and son John Mercer of Crawford Lake, NB. Grandchildren James Mercer, Heather Freeman, and Nicholas Freeman, great grandchild Jonas Mercer; sister Laura Anderson and sister-in-law Muriel Dobson, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Reta is predeceased by her siblings and their spouses: Coleman (Mona), Gertrude (Heber) Bell, Frank (Cicelia), Alice (Milton) Baxter, Arthur (Lila), Albert (Adeline) and brother-in -law Thomas Anderson.

Reta worked with her husband in the lumber camp and on the farm. Her family was supplied with hand-made clothes, knit wear, quilts and a "good garden".

Special thanks to the staff at the Kiwanis Nursing Home for her care over the past number of years.

Visiting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre, (839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, will take place on Sunday, November 24th, 2019, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm with the Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 pm.

Donations to the memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Condolences to the family may be made through www.sherwoodsfuneralhome.com
