Obituary for Deborah "Debbi" Wood

Deborah “Debbi” L. Wood, 65, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, November 21, 2019. Born in Truro, NS, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Florence (Campbell) Steeves.

Debbie was a graduate of Harrison Trimble High School and attended her first year of university at Mount Allison in the science program. In 1974, she was accepted into Dalhousie University's B.Sc. Pharmacology program where she obtained her Pharmacy Degree in 1977. Early in her career she started working at Shoppers Highfield where she was chief pharmacist and later franchisee at their Highfield Square store for over 30 years. When the Highfield location was demolished, she built the new Shoppers on Vaughan Harvey Blvd. Debbie retired from Shoppers approximately 10 years ago but couldn't leave her joy of helping clients for more than a couple of weeks. So, she spent a few years as a relief Pharmacist traveling to stores in Moncton, Rexton, Sackville, and Riverside-Albert.

Over the years she perfected her enjoyment with gardening and maintaining the “Wood Family Estate”! Planting, pruning, and picking flowers was her passion.

She became an avid sailor and earned her “Advanced Pilots Designation” from the Canadian Power and Sailing Squadron. She and her husband Richard were an accomplished rally and motorsport team in the seventies and eighties.

A “lover of all animals”, she always said she should have become a Vet so all the stray, injured, and orphaned critters could find a safe, new home at her place.

After more than 50 years together, Debbi will be greatly missed by her husband and partner Rick; sisters, Carol MacWilliam (late John) of Woodstock, ON and Dawna Lund (Jim) of Charlottetown, PE; brother, Keith Steeves of Cornwall, ON and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends throughout the Maritimes.

A gathering to share memories and celebrate Debbi’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Reception Centre on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Private family service will be held at Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John.

In memory of Debbi, donations to the Luxor Shriners Transportation Fund would be appreciated. Online condolences for the family may be shared on Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook page or at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
