Obituary for Clara Gertrude Stackhouse

Clara Gertrude Stackhouse will be missed but not forgotten. It was her time and she was ready. Her daughters Patricia and Pamela wish to announce her passing on December 5th, 2019. Clara was the last surviving member of her immediate family. The youngest child of the late Robert and Frances (McLaughlin) White, she was born in Hampton in 1924. She was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2011 and son Paul in 1973.

Clara was a proud graduate of St. Vincent’s High School for girls and Mount Carmel Academy. Upon graduation she worked as a private secretary in the executive office of the Golden Ball. She left to raise her family upon birth of her son Paul in 1953. Clara returned to the workplace in 1969 as a switchboard operator at the General Hospital and retired in 1989 from Saint John Regional Hospital. She was a faithful adherent of Stella Maris Church from 1952 to 2017 and attended Mass regularly which continued while she was a resident of Rocmaura.

She is survived by her daughters Patricia Gallagher and Pamela (Edwin) Bourque with whom she lived from 2003 until her admission to a nursing home in 2017. She has five grandchildren; Paul (Jessica) Gallagher, Scott Gallagher, Heather Gallagher (Samantha Richard), Danielle (Jeff Beckingham) Bourque and Emilie Bourque. In addition she is survived by two great-granddaughters Georgia Gallagher and Gwen Thibault and two great-grandsons Logan Hooper and Gage Coates. She is also survived by her brother–in–law G. Frederick Stackhouse, several nieces and nephews as well as grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses Mary (George) Nelson, Sterling (Doris) White, Helen (Cecil) Stuart, John (Joan) White, Annie (Keith) Fowler and Walter (Ella) White as well as in–laws Ron (Dolly) Stackhouse, Marion Stackhouse and Marion Bell Stackhouse.

A special thank you to Rocmaura Nursing Home for your kindness, care and compassion.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646–2424). A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Stella Maris Catholic Church (201 Bayside Drive) on Saturday, December 7th at 9:30 a.m. followed by an interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
