Obituary for Constance Bliss

Constance (Connie) Ruth (McFarland) Bliss wife of George (Tim) Bliss passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary on December 9th , 2019. Connie was the daughter of the late Zella (Pickard) McFarland and William ( Eph) McFarland of Fredericton New Brunswick.

She will be sadly missed by her husband George (Tim) Bliss of 64 years, her son David (Janet) Bliss from Chicago, Diane (David) Bell from Halifax and Deidra (Ross) Fraser from Calgary, five granddaughters Lauren and Erin Bell, Lindsey Bliss, Britney Mounce and Hilary Fraser and two grandsons Michael Bliss and Bryan Bell as well as many other friends and family. Connie leaves behind her brother Jerry and wife Marjorie, her brother–in–law Robert (Bob) Bliss, John (Dorothy) Bliss and sister– in–law Iris Bliss.

She was predeceased by brothers Ronald Pickard McFarland and Douglas Dole McFarland.

Connie was born September 26th, 1936 and grew up in Fredericton New Brunswick and graduated from Fredericton High School. She worked as a secretary at a construction firm and later as a dental assistant. After getting married in 1955, she started raising a family. Connie and Tim lived in Fredericton, NB for 4 years , Saint John, NB for 3 years and then Florenceville, NB for 37 years where Tim worked for McCain Foods. Connie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was compassionate, caring, friendly, outgoing and devoted. She lived life to the fullest and was most happy spending time with her family and friends, all who meant so much to her. While in Florenceville Connie was very active in the community. She took an active role through the years in the Anglican Church; was a member of the Women’s Institute, a member of the curling club. She started the first Brownie Pack in Florenceville, and a few years later opened a ladies clothing store ‘Sports Carriage’ which she ran for 10 years. She was an active golfer from her teenage years until her late 70s.

After Tim retired they moved to Halifax where they lived from 1999 until now. Initially they resided in Glen Arbour, where she continued to play golf, and became involved in the community, starting a book club and hosting cocktail and dinner parties.

Visitation will take place at J.A. Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive on Friday, December 13th, 2019, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 14th, 2019 at 2 pm at St. Nicholas Church, 29 Westwood Blvd Upper Tantallion.
