Obituary for Bernice Kristmanson

It is with sad hearts that the family of Bernice Madeline Kristmanson (née Stanyer) announce her passing on December 11, 2019, at the age of 83. Bernice was born in Hazelton, BC, on February 29, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Jasper and Helen (Pratt) Stanyer of Nelson, BC.

Bernice is predeceased by her brother, J. Douglas Stanyer of Naramata/Powell River, BC.

Bernice leaves behind her husband, Daniel David Kristmanson, her son Mark David Kristmanson (Léa); her daughter Helen Elizabeth Kristmanson (David); her son Daniel Andrew Kristmanson (Paula); her beloved grandchildren Dorian Islay Kristmanson (Marc) and Kyrie Helen Kristmanson (Nicolas); Madelaine Kristmanson Keenlyside; Max Kristmanson Keenlyside; Daniel Jasper Kristmanson.

Bernice and David were married in Vancouver, BC, in January 1956 and moved to London in September of the same year. After spending four years in England they returned to Canada in 1960 and lived in Calgary until 1962 when they moved to Fredericton and joined the faculty at UNB. Bernice raised three children in Fredericton and was an active member of the Stanley Street community. She lived her whole life in service to others, once saying that a life without volunteering is not a full life. Among her numerous service activities were Girl Guides of Canada, where she served as Commissioner for the O’Dell District, and the Women’s Institute. She was a board member at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and volunteered and worked for the Canadian Mental Association for 10 years. In 1994, Bernice moved back to British Columbia with her husband where they both had extended family. They spent 25 years enjoying the beauty of the west coast where she continued to be an active volunteer working with seniors.

Her husband and family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital as well as the Shannex for their exceptional care and kindness.

A celebration of Bernice’s life will take place in the coming months.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made at www.mcadamsfh.com
