Obituary for M. Rosalie Ritchie

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Rosalie (Parsons) Ritchie, beloved wife of Arnold Ritchie, announces her passing on December 12, 2019 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born on June 11, 1929 in Stephenville Crossing, NL, she was the oldest daughter of the Late Israel and Matilda (White) Parsons.

Rosalie came to Saint John when she was 17 years old. She enrolled in the militia for 5 years. Rosalie worked for Dominion Grocery and also B.F. Goodrich where she met the love of her life, Arnold. They were married in 1961. After a short break, she worked for St. Peter’s Church as their first secretary until her retirement in 1993.

Rosalie was a devoted wife, mother and Nana. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting baby hats for the hospital, bowling, curling, and loved playing cards – especially when she was beating her husband Arnold. Rosalie was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Church. She was a member of the Legion Branch #69 and the C.W.L. for 50 years. Rosalie was also on the Board of Brentwood Towers and enjoyed the St. Vincent’s Bridge Club with all her friends.

Rosalie is survived by her husband of 58 years Arnold; her daughter: Susan (Scott) Logan; granddaughters: Sarah (Joel) Wionzek, Savannah Logan and Sierrah Logan; brothers: Albert (Sandi) Parsons, and Vince (Judy) Parsons; sisters: Sheila (the late John) Cassel, Martha (Robert) Ham, and Claudia (the late Phillip) DePriest; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Rosalie was predeceased by her parents; brothers: Ignatius, Malcom Herman, and Cyril; and sisters: Muriel Johnson, and Elizabeth Franklin.

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634–7424), there will be visiting on Monday, December 16 from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday, December 17 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Redeemer Parish on Wednesday, December 18 at 11 AM. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Remembrances in Rosalie’s name to Rocmaura would be appreciated by the family, and online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
