Obituary for Jeremie "Jerry" Doiron Gould Jr.

Nov. 25, 1945 – Dec. 12, 2019
It is with great sorrow that we announce Jerrys passing which occurred at the Georges Dumont Hospital, surrounded by his wife of 31 years Carol (Mercer) and many brothers and family members.

Jerry is survived by stepsons, Andrew Sherman of Riverview N.B. and Stephen (Angi) Sherman of Lower Sackville N.S. and Grand Daughter Mackenzie. His mother-in-law Margaret Mercer, Bay Roberts NL; Brother-in-law Larry (Lorraine) Mercer of Woodstock NB and brother-in-law Terry (Linda) Mercer of Grand Lake NB. His seven brothers, Richard, Raymond, Ronald, Georges, Paul, Danny, Roger and only sister and God Daughter Rita. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father Jeremie Doiron Sr. in 2008 and mother Imelda (Arseneault) Doiron in 2001 along with infant sibling Jeremie, Georges and Rita. Also his father-in-law Frederick Mercer in 2002, sister in law Emma (Mercer) Yank in 1996 and brother-in-law Brian Yank in 2009.

Jerry was a well–known figure both in the business and the Boxing world. He ran several successful businesses in the Moncton area over the last 40 years. He was an accomplished amateur boxer having had some 70 matches in the 1960's and 1970’s. He went to the New York State Golden Glove finals, was Michigan State Golden Glove Champion and Ontario Champion. He also boxed at Expo 67 in Montreal. Also involved in several other capacities in Boxing, he became Vice President of the Ontario Amateur Boxing association. Three time President of the Canadian Professional Boxing Federation. He served on the Moncton Boxing Commission for 21 years being its chairman for 20 of those years. He was the founder of the National Boxing Authority. Was a member of the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame and the Moncton Wall of Fame. Jerry also served on the City Of Moncton Planning Commission for several years.

His greatest love after his wife Carol may have been trout fishing. Nowhere else did he seem so comfortable and relaxed as when he was in the outdoors and one with nature and his fishing pole waiting for the big one to bite. Jerry was a character, bigger than life and never lived one boring moment. Had more friends and acquaintances than humanly possible. He never forgot a name and had a way of making people feel special. He was a true character with flare and charisma that was rare.

The family wishes to thank all the nurses and doctors of 4C who cared for him at the Georges Dumont Hospital especially his doctor, Renee Parker.

There will be no visitation or funeral service at Jerry's request. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, December 21 at the FISTS Boxing Club at 607 St. George Blvd between the hours of 1 and 4 pm.

Donations in Jerry's memory can be made to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, (506)852–3530. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca
