Obituary for Mary Hogan

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Mary Catherine (Duffy) Hogan, wife of the late Leo T. Hogan, on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit. Born on January 14, 1932 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late William and Daisy (Duguay) Duffy.

Mary will live in the hearts of her four children, Patrick (Mary Ellen), Michael (Katherine), Mary Anne and Kevin (Michele); grandchildren, Kristina, Kristopher, Sean (Kathleen), Mark, Lauren and Anna; great-granddaughter, Tilly Hogan; sisters, Lola Boyles and Frances Murphy (Tom); sister-in-law, Evelyn Hogan; many nieces and nephews as well as her close friend and shopping companion, Margaret “Marg” O’Connor.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Patrick Duffy; sister, Joan Moran and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.

Mary was employed for many years at General Bakeries and Sobey’s McAllister as a cake decorator where she was very skilled at creating cakes for weddings, birthdays and many other occasions. She was also talented at sewing, knitting, making jewelry and painting. After her retirement, she continued to do baking and special occasion cakes for many friends and family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Postuma for his compassionate care, in addition to the nursing staff at SJRH 4B South and especially the Palliative Care Unit for their special care. Also to Dr. Jay Hannigan and nursing staff at the SJRH Emergency Department for their exceptional care.

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there will be no visitation. However, relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated from Holy Redeemer Parish, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at 2:30 PM. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).

For those wish, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the SJRH Palliative Care Unit c/o the SJRH Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB. www.BrenansFH.com
