Obituary for Ethel Carr

Ethel (DeBouver) Carr (nee Barton) died at the Dr. Everett Chalmers hospital on December 26, 2019 after a brief illness. She was 95.

Ethel was born on June 22, 1924 in Minto, NB to Claude and Effie Barton. She married her first husband Charles DeBouver in 1940 and her second husband Stewart Carr in 1989. She spent her entire life in Minto as a housewife, mother, and grandmother. During the last five years of her life, she was a resident of the W.G. Bishop Nursing Home where she fully enjoyed all of the Home’s activities and received loving care from the staff.

Ethel could often be found with her knitting needles in hand creating mittens, socks, slippers, and sweaters for family and friends. The hundreds of baby sets she made were a welcomed gift to many new parents. In her later years, she enjoyed the challenge of a good puzzle and sharing her love of reading with her neighbours at the nursing home. She was a kind loving person of strong faith throughout her life.

Ethel is survived by her six children; Nancy Robichaud of Rothesay, NB; Arthur DeBouver (Lorraine) of Princess Park, NB; Paul DeBouver (Viola) of Douglas Harbour, NB; Larry DeBouver (Heidi) of Saint John, NB; Margot Kilfillen (Gary) of Salmon Creek, NB; and Rick DeBouver (Daphne) of Coldbrook, NS along with 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two husbands, her daughter Marie Fougere and her infant son Allan. Ethel is the last surviving member of her family as she was also predeceased by her siblings Ronald, George, Norman, Pearl, and twin infant sister Hazel.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sunbury Funeral home. Visitations will be on Monday, December 30, 2019 from 12:00 - 2:00pm at Hoggs Funeral Home, the Funeral Service to follow at 3:00pM in the same location. Reception will be at the Mason’s Lodge. Interment will be at a later date. Donations in memory of Ethel can be made to the Minto School Breakfast Program or a charity of your choice.
