Obituary for Daniel Kenny

Daniel Aloysius Kenny, 70, of Miramichi NB, passed away December 26, 2019 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital after his battle with cancer surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Chatham NB, he was the eldest son of the late William and Ann (Flynn) Kenny.

Danny was a firefighter with the Oromocto Fire Department for 31 years. Like a true Miramichier, after retirement, he and his wife Coleen moved back to their hometown and resided in Retirement Miramichi.

Survived by his beloved wife of 48 years Coleen (Handrahan) Kenny; his children whom he was very proud of, Shari Kenny of Ottawa and Shane Kenny (Talia) of Fort McMurray; cherished grandchildren Stephen, Taylor, Karma, Tegan, Brody and Bria; brothers Joseph (Bernadette) of Miramichi, Edward (Laura Lee) of Minto, brother-in-law Carroll Joseph Handrahan of Charlottetown and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Brian Kenny (Carolyn) of Salisbury.

As per the Danny’s request, there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Michaels Basilica with Father John Fraser officiating, assisted by Father Dass on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 12:00pm, reception to follow. An honor guard was formed by the Oromocto and Miramichi Fire departments with the Oromocto Fire Department performing the Last Alarm Ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer masses be offered for Danny or donations to the Extra-Mural Program and/or Palliative care unit at Miramichi Regional Hospital.

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Miramichi Hospital. A very special thank you to Dr. Ninian Slorach for his kindness and compassion.
