Obituary for John Darling

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of John Henry Darling which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, December 31st, 2019. Born 1945, in Saint John, he was the son of the late Henry and Frances (Emery) Darling.

John is survived by his loving and devoted wife Carol (Bryant) Darling of 53 years; son Jason Darling (Sara) of Lower Sackville, NS; daughter Jillian Darling (Scott Richardson) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren Joshua, Nathan, Jacob, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Owen and Colin.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brother Robert Darling.

John was born and raised in Hammond River, NB. During his youth and school years, he enjoyed playing the sports of basketball, tennis, baseball, softball and soccer. Later he coached both Jason and Jill in minor basketball as well as at the junior high level, winning several championships.

John graduated from Rothesay Regional High School and attended UNB for one year. He started his working career with the Bank of Nova Scotia and then spent several years in insurance and advertising sales. In 1981, he and Carol purchased Modern Business College in Saint John, which later became CompuCollege which they operated until retirement in 2005. During that time, John served as President of the N.B. Association of Career Colleges and President of the National Association of Career Colleges.

He was very proud of exceeding 150 blood donations, receiving a certificate from the Governor of Canada. During retirement, life was about family, travel and time at the cottage.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Friday January 3rd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Saturday, January 4th at 2 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
