Obituary for Eric Cook

Black Point - It is with profound sadness that the family of Eric Cook announce that his death occurred at home unexpectedly on January 4, 2020 following a very brief illness. Born on November 22, 1987 in Dalhousie, NB, Eric was the son of Jean (MacMillan) Cook and the late Finley Cook of Black Point, NB.

Eric, affectionately known as “Cookie”, was valedictorian and Male Athlete of the Year of the 2005 graduating class of Dalhousie Regional High School. He went on to study at St. Mary’s University in Halifax and then the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton from where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2010. At the time of his death, Eric was employed with Design Built Mechanical, Charlo, NB.

Eric was a natural athlete and excelled at many sports through his school years and beyond, especially hockey and soccer. Eric’s outgoing personality and charm, reflected in his smile and dimples, endeared him to those he met and with whom he worked. Having a ‘big heart’, his circle of friends were far and wide and he always kept in touch with them. He had a special bond with his dog, Macki.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Jean; his siblings, Mandi (Kris), Pam and Jim (Mary); nephews Johnny Brown and Nathaniel Webber-Cook; aunts, Marilyn MacMillan (Don), Betsy (John) Dickie and Phyllis (Bernard) Furlong, Ellen Cook and Alice Webb; uncles, Gerald (Gabriella) MacMillan and Douglas (Chris) Cook; and many cousins including a special friendship with cousin, Kendra.

He was predeceased by his father, Finley; grandparents Raymond and Vivian MacMillan and Billy and Isabel Cook; aunts, Lillian and Ruthie; uncles, Mac, Bruce, George and Kingston.

Visitation will be held from the Archibald Room at the Dalhousie Recreaplex (122 Inch Arran Ave.) on Friday, January 10 from 2:00 to 6.00 p.m.. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. from St. John Bosco Catholic Church (470 Victoria Street, Dalhousie), Kent Gibbons officiating.

In his memory and in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Restigouche SPCA (165 Baybreeze Drive, Dalhousie, NB, E8C 1E4; 684-4396) or to any Minor Hockey Program to help give children an opportunity to play hockey.

Arrangements are in the care of MacMillan’s Funeral Home, Black Point. Email: macmillanjames@rogers.com

Rest easy, Eric and may peace eternal be yours.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
