Obituary for Norah "Olga" Grant

With heavy hearts, the family of Olga Grant, wife of James M. "Rory" Grant, announce her unexpected passing at home on Monday, January 13, 2020. Born in Fredericton on May 23, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Alban F. and Norah F. (Warburton) Bate.

Olga was a graduate of Saint John High School and McGill University. She was a woman of great faith, attending St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Saint John in her formative years and St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Rothesay for the past 65 years. She sang in the choir and was a member of the ACW. She was also a Social Sponsor for Beta Sigma Phi. In her younger years, Olga enjoyed canoeing, skiing, sailing, and travelling around the world on many adventures. She was active in her community serving as a Board Member for Turnbull Nursing Home as well as being Chair of the Board of Netherwood School for Girls in Rothesay. Above all, Olga loved her family, especially spending time with her cherished grandchildren.

Besides her loving husband of 64 years, Rory, Olga is survived by her children: J. R. Macgregor Grant (Valerie) of Rothesay, Andrew S. Grant (Kim) of Sackville, NB, Michael W. Grant of Quispamsis (Angela Price), and Norah T. Grant (Bennett Dummett) of London, England; sister, Dorothea Beckwith; brother, John Bate (Sharon); grandchildren: Jamie Grant, Rachael Grant, Hazen Grant, Nicholas Grant, Margot Grant, Sydney Dummett, Gillian Grant, Zoe Dummett, Caroline Grant, Joey Rouse, Nicholas Rouse and Morgan Grant; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Olga was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Anne Langmaid, Constance Sinclair and Mary Foster; and brother, George Bate.

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11:30 AM from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 4 Church Avenue, Rothesay NB. Interment will be held at a later date in Fernhill Cemetery.
