Obituary for Claire MacEwen

Claire Dorothy MacEwen (nee Paquet) died peacefully at her home in Ottawa, ON on January 12, 2020. Claire was born on April 21, 1933 in Souris, PEI to the late Edward St. Clair Paquet and the late Matilda Frances Paquet (nee MacAulay). She was raised in Souris, and moved to Fredericton, NB in 1960. She graduated from the Charlottetown Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, and completed post-graduate work in obstetrical nursing at the Montreal General Hospital. She worked as a nurse in both Halifax, NS and at the Victoria PublicHospital in Fredericton, NB. She was a volunteer on the Board of Fredericton Transition House and the Victorian Order of Nurses. She was also an avid duplicate bridge player and member of the Fredericton Duplicate Bridge Club, becoming a Ruby Life Master.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Eric Bernard MacEwen, in 2009, and her sisters, Edna Almond (nee Paquet) and Grace LaRochelle (nee Paquet). She is survived by her son, Eric (Rick) St. Clair MacEwen; daughter-in-law, Nancy Ruth MacEwen (nee McPherson); granddaughter, Laura Jane MacEwen of Ottawa, ON; daughter, Kelly Ann Ingram (nee MacEwen); son-in-law, Andrew Ingram of Caledonia, ON and their children, Nolan Ingram and Nicola Lloyd (nee Ingram); sister, Elinor (Ollie) Hughes of Charlottetown, PEI; brother, Alan Paquet and sister-in-law, Maureen Paquet (nee McCormack) of Summerside, PEI; sister-in-law, Catherine Gallant (nee MacEwen) of Charlottetown, PEI; sister-in-law, Ethel MacEwen of Victoria, BC; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 7-9 pm and Saturday, January 18 from 10 am - 12 pm. A funeral mass will take place at St. Theresa’s Church, 1 William Street, Fredericton NB on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 1pm with Father John Jennings as celebrant. Remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
