Obituary for Melvin Dixon

1932-2020
Melvin James Dixon, 87, of Forest Dale Home and formerly of Harvey, Albert County, passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2020 at the Moncton Hospital with his family by his side. Melvin was born in Point Wolfe on March 30th, 1932 the son of the late Clarence and Daisy (Simmons) Dixon.

He worked at Fundy National Park for several years until his retirement. His faith was important to him, he was an active member of the Harvey Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. He enjoyed playing golf, reading and fishing. He was an avid hockey fan and always cheered for his favourite, Toronto Maple Leafs. Most of all he was a dedicated family man who loved his girls. He was the only man in the house with his wife and five daughters and he loved it. He treasured times with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he loved to tease them and get them going. Visits from his precious great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson would make his day. He will be remembered for his great sense of humour and kindness. Good memories will help to keep us strong. Family is forever and the best of you will live on in our hearts.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Marion Dixon of Riverview; daughters, Lois Manuel (Paul) of Moncton, Sandra Reid (Darrell) of New Canaan, Donna LeBlanc (Danny) of Indian Mountain, Marie Henwood (Perry) of Boundary Creek and Brenda Hoar (Edward) of Waterside; his 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and by all his extended family.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by son-in-law, Matt Beaumont; sisters, Alice Brewster, Norma Allen, Dora Gates and Barbara Dixon; brothers, Rutherford, Gerald, Walter, Howard, twin brother Marvin and Junior.

Honouring Melvin's own wishes there will be no visitation. A Celebration of his life and Memorial Service will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2020 at 2:00pm with Pastor Paul Steeves officiating. The family will be meeting with relatives and friends following the service also for further fellowship and refreshments at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Bayview Cemetery, Harvey, NB at a later date.

For those who wish donations to the Bayview Cemetery or to the charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, NB E4H-3K2 734-2780
