Obituary for Agatha Van Der Fluit

1926 - 2020
Agatha Van Der Fluit, 93, of Irishtown, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at The Moncton Hospital. Born on April 16, 1926 in Holland, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Andriana (Bruyns) Koppes.

Agatha grew up in Holland in a family of 12 children. She moved to Canada to start a new adventure with her husband and five children. They settled in St-Antoine where they owned a farm. Agatha was a hard worker but took time to enjoy the flowers and gardening. Later they moved to Moncton and did janitorial work for over 10 years together. As well, Agatha enjoyed knitting and crocheting, which she passed to her granddaughter Kaitlyn. For years, Agatha made little coats and hats for babies at The Moncton Hospital.

In later years, Agatha moved to Riverview and met some great new friends, in particular, Lil Wilson. The two would enjoy walks, shopping, and of course some time talking with others at Tim’s. For the past year, as her health was failing, Agatha moved in with her daughter Theresa where she enjoyed her afternoons out on the porch making crafts and having a nice French vanilla. Agatha passed away in the company of her daughter and granddaughter, Carolyn, while they held her hands watching one of her favorite shows.

She is survived by six children: John (Brenda), Peter (Sharon), James (Pierrette), Conrad (Annette), Ted (Pattie) and Theresa (Brian); as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John, and her youngest son, Jim (2009).

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Lawrence O’Toole Roman Catholic Church, 2340 Route 115, Irishtown, Monday, January 27 at 1 pm. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

In memory of Agatha, a contribution to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Words of comfort and donations may be made at www.frenettefuneralhome.com
