Obituary for Patricia Flanagan

1929 – 2020
Patricia Mary Flanagan of Losier Hall, formerly of Weldfield and Napan passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Friday, January 24th, 2020 at the age of 90. Born in Chatham on April 14, 1929, she was the eldest daughter of the late John A. and Elizabeth (Fitzpatrick) Flanagan.

With the premature deaths of her parents, Pat bore many household responsibilities including helping to care for her younger siblings and her uncle Frank. In Grade 8 she had the top marks in the district in the school written examinations. Unfortunately, she did not have the opportunity to attend high school. She was a dedicated employee in the Food Services department at the Hotel Dieu Hospital for 25 years. She was known for her attention to detail and ensuring everything was done just right. Pat was a faithful and devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church and attended St. Michael’s Basilica.

Pat was loved and supported by her neighbours in Weldfield and the family is particularly grateful to Martha Moran and family who were cherished neighbours, friends, and caregivers for many years.

Pat is survived by fourteen nieces and nephews and their families: Kenneth Walls, Elizabeth (Walls) Wallace, Linda Walls, Robert Walls, Sonya (Hackett) Lewis, Debbie Hackett, Gary Hackett, Alan Hackett, Karen Hackett, Janet (Hackett) Sanii, Roxanne MacKnight, Carolyn MacKnight Bent, Colleen (MacKnight) Davies and Dale MacKnight.

She was predeceased by her parents, her partner Vincent (Terry) Moran, three sisters Marie Hackett, Carmel MacKnight and Margaret Walls and one brother Joseph.

By request there was no visitation. Mass of Christian burial was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi, on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 11 am with Father John Fraser as Celebrant. Music for the service was provided by Paula Foley and the hymns were “Here I Am, Lord”, “Blessed Are They”, “You Are Near” and the recessional hymn was “The Blessing”. A recorded song “An Irish Blessing” by niece Elizabeth Wallace. The scriptures were read by great-nieces Megan Bent and Erin Walls. Prayers of the Faithful were read by niece Debbie Hackett and Remembrances were presented by niece Dr. Roxanne MacKnight.

Honorary pallbearers were Martha Moran, Margaret Moran, George Moran, John MacKnight, Fred Dunn and Don MacDonald. Pallbearers were Robert Walls, Jamie Walls, Kenneth Walls, Gary Hackett, Mike Dickinson and Kevin Moran. Interment will be held in St Michael’s Cemetery later in the spring.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her former caregivers at Cozy Lodge Special Care Home, Mount St Joseph’s Nursing Home and Losier Hall. Thank-you to Father Fraser for officiating and to Paula Foley for the beautiful music. Thank you to Agnes and Gary McLenaghan for providing food and refreshments. Finally, thank you to Keith Carter and Kelsey McLenaghan Chhuom of Adams Funeral Home for their support and professional service.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492 or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca
