Obituary for Mary Pentecost

It is with sadness that the family of Mary Rita Pentecost announce her passing after a brief illness, on February 9, 2020, at Hospice House Fredericton. Born on October 23, 1929, she was the daughter of the late W. David and Ellen (Lamont) Pentecost.

Mary grew up in Westmount, NS. During her early years, she worked as a cobbler at Dominics, repairing shoes for 16 years. She moved to Saint John, NB in 1964. While living in Saint John, Mary was a personal assistant of several seniors, which included but was not limited to house keeping and grocery shopping. She continued to do this rewarding work until she reached the age of 65. While residing in Saint John, Mary attended and was a member of The Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception. It was in 2015 when the decision to move to Fredericton to be with her daughter was made.

Throughout this well lived life, Mary developed a knack for and a love of knitting and gardening. Her hard work and creativity showed with all of her crafts and beautifully tended to gardens. It also showed when a stray cat needed to be rescued. Mary loved cats and would feed any that were in her area.

She is survived by her daughter Cloe Mullins (Michael McNeill) of Fredericton, NB; brother Wilfred of Sydney, NS; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by brothers Duncan, Arthur, James, Aloysius “Wish” and William “Bill” Pentecost; foster brother Francis Pentecost; as well as a foster sister Judith “Judy” Hall.

By request, there will be no visitation. A committal service will be held in the spring at the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery, with Fr. Douglas McNeill as celebrant.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House Fredericton or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.mcadamsfh.com
