Obituary for Dorothy Butler

Dorothy L. Butler, 97, of Monarch Hall, Riverview and formerly of Lindsay, Ontario, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Suzanna (Broadway-Stokes) Atkinson.

Following retirement from her work as a school secretary in North York, Ontario, Dorothy was able to devote more of her time to her family, her church, and her many volunteer and social activities. Dorothy was committed to building community, and was involved in many volunteer organizations over the course of her life such as the United Church Women, and Canadian Girls in Training. Dorothy attended St. Paul’s United Church in Riverview.

Dorothy will be sadly missed by her husband of 68 years, Wilfred Bryce Butler of Canterbury Hall, Riverview; daughters, Rev. Dawn Griffiths (Robert) of Charlottetown, PEI and Rev. Susan Butler-Jones (Rev. Boyd Drake) of Aylmer, QC; grandchildren, Rev. Torrey Griffiths (Angela) of Emerald, PE, Braden Griffiths (Charlotte) of Lunenburg, NS, Bronwyn Butler-Jones (Jordan Hovdebo) of Winnipeg, MB, Evan Butler-Jones (Christina) of Ottawa, ON, Meghan Butler-Jones (Evan McMillan) of Warman, SK and great-grandchildren, Alaura, Caraline, Faith, Gavin, Nikki, Elliana, Eva, Ben and James.

Arrangements under the professional care and guidance of Fergusons Funeral home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995).

Visitation at St. Paul’s United Church, 404 Cleveland Avenue, Riverview on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, followed immediately by a Service to celebrate and honour Dorothy’s life at 1:30 pm. Reception in the Church Hall following the service. Interment will be in Zion Presbyterian Cemetery, West Branch.

In memory of Dorothy, donations to St. Paul’s United Church, Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Online condolences for the family may be shared on Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook page or at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com.
