Obituary for Augustine Lagacé

1925-2020
We are sad to announce that Mom, Augustine Lagacé, formerly of Donald Ave, passed away at the age of 94 at the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. She was the wife of the late George (the barber) Lagacé. Born in Pointe-Verte, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Comeau and Célina Fournier. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 11.

She is survived by her two daughters Lynda Comeau (Gary) of Dieppe and Louise Wafer of Bathurst. She will be greatly missed by her two grandchildren, Janice Comeau (Bernard) of Notre-Dame-de-Kent and Timothy Wafer of Bathurst.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by six brothers: Leopold, Lucien, Philippe, Edward, Claude and André; and four sisters: Honorine Comeau, Isabelle Cloutier, Claire Roy and Eveline Bongers.
Mom loved children and was known as “Leggie” to many of the neighbourhood kids.

In addition to her crafts (knitting, crocheting, needle point, macramé and more) and her baking, and making a large variety of fudge; she kept busy as a volunteer and member of various organizations. She was a lifetime member of the Hospital Ladies Auxilary and also of the Sacred Heart CWL. She volunteered at the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes 24 years, until the age of 87. She was the family records keeper. She knew the dates of newborns, weddings, deaths and many other special events, seldom referring to her “little book”. It was all in her memory.

We would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes for the excellent care she received.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. The immediate family will have a private gathering Burial will take place in the spring, in the cemetery, with her husband, George, in their native Village of Pointe-Verte.

Donations in her memory are not necessary, however, can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
