Obituary for Ivan Butland

1947-2020
Ivan Neil Butland, 72, of Alma passed away on February 12th, 2020 at his home with his family by his side. Ivan was born in Alma on April 5, 1947 the son of the late Garnet and Freda (McKinley) Butland.

Ivan was a very hard working self employed contractor known to many as someone they could call day or night and would always be the first one there to help. Whether plowing driveways or streets, running his excavator and other various equipment, delivering gravel from his pit or just helping out someone in need. He had a passion for his work and always felt blessed to be doing what he did. Although he worked hard the other passion was his family. He made sure they were looked after and they all had many good memories to treasure. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and just being outdoors in nature. He always looked forward to riding his motorcycle with his family and friends, heading out on many adventures throughout the years. He was fortunate to travel all over the world and enjoyed his last trip which he crossed off his bucket list to Ride the Rails of the Rocky Mountaineer and visit the Cathedral forest in BC. He will definitely be remembered for his great sense of humour, twinkling blue eyes and that handsome smile that would light up a room. He would want everyone to have a laugh and remember all the fun times they shared as they reminisce. Think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched... for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much. His kind and generous heart will live with us forever.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 52 years, Doreen (Kennie) Butland; his children, Douglas Butland of West River, Norma Jean Murphy of Alma, Julie Butland-Ricker (Rob) of Lower Coverdale, Erin Butland-Clark (Matthew) of Riverview; his treasured grandchildren, Alex, Shannon, Jacob, Katie, Hayley, Joey and Lillian; sister, Doris Weir (Richard) of Riverside-Albert. He will also be missed by his close cousin, Walter Butland who was like a brother to him; by all his in-laws, extended family, nieces and nephews and by many good friends.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant sister, Louise and nephew, Scott Weir.

He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with a time of visitation on Saturday evening from 6-8pm. The Funeral Service and Celebration of His Life will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Sunday, February 16th, 2020 at 2:00pm with Pastor Paul Steeves officiating. Immediately following the service the family will be meeting for further sharing of memories and for refreshments in the funeral home reception area. Interment will be in the Bayview Cemetery, Harvey, Albert Co., NB at a later date.

For those who wish donations to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital, New Horton Baptist Church or Charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, NB, E4H 3K2 734-2780 www.albertcountyfh.com
