Obituary for Joseph Alyre Richard

Surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 96 Alyre Richard passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14th, 2020 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Born in July of 1923, in Acadieville, NB, he was the son of the late Joseph and Suzanne Richard.

Alyre was a WWII Veteran and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following his service time he spent many years as a Carpenter building houses in the greater Saint John area. He also worked for the Port of Saint John with CPR as a freight handler. In later years he owned and managed rental properties and continued to be involved in house construction for his family and friends. Alyre was a man of faith and was a parishioner of the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception.

He is survived by his children Claudette Miller (Randy) of Saint John, Denise Lackie (Wayne Hackett) of Willow Grove, Paul Richard (Kim St. Pierre) of Willow Grove, Raymond Richard of Willow Grove, Rose LaFleur (Lou) of Fredericton, Andrea Richard (Mike) of Whitby, ON, Mark Richard of Saint John and Anita MacEachern (Derek) of Whitby, ON; 19 grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; brothers Camille (Thelma) and Jean both of Moncton; sisters Maria and Jeanne both of Moncton and Imelda Fournier of Rogersville; sister–in–law Mathilda of Saint John and Elva of Moncton; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides his parents, Alyre was predeceased by his wife Muriel (Hodgin) Richard in May of 2019; brothers Ovila, Antoine and Camille (who died at a young age) and sisters Florence Daigle and Rita Thibodeau.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646–2424) with visitation being held on Sunday, February 16th from 3 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street on Monday February 17th at 12:10 p.m. Interment will take place at later date.
