Obituary for Vaughan Charters

At the Shannex, Thomas Hall on Saturday, February 15, 2020 Vaughan Ora Charters of Fredericton and formerly of New Maryland, N.B. passed away surrounded by the love of his dear family. Vaughan was Born August 18, 1933 in New Maryland, he was a son of the late James Ora and Nellie Elizabeth (Daniel) Charters.

Vaughan was a member of the First Congregational Church of Fredericton and Morning Gate Church.

Vaughan worked for Mussens Ltd. in the early 1950’s and joined the RCAF in 1955-1958. He was the owner operator of Charters Shell Station in New Maryland from 1961-1973. He will always be remembered as a kind and generous man who always enjoyed meeting the public. He also worked with Transport Canada (Fredericton Airport) for 15 years where he was employed as an Examiner, Trainer and a Heavy Equipment Operator. In 1989, he and his son, Douglas formed Charters Lawn and Garden offering sales and service of small equipment until his retirement in 2005. An outdoorsman at heart, Vaughn loved to hunt, fish salmon and always enjoyed walking in the woods.

Vaughan will be missed by his children, Marilyn Charters and Douglas Charters (Sandra) of New Maryland. He was a loving grandfather to Matthew Fletcher (Chelsey) Sabrina Doran (Jeremy), Brandon Hachey (Anika) of Ottawa and Justin Charters (Megan). He was a great-grandfather to Avrey Fletcher-Fox and Hayzen Fletcher, Kate and Bennett Doran, and Arwen Hachey. Vaughn also leaves behind one sister Audrey Walker (Laurie) of Grand Prairie, Alberta; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Charlene Shirley (Grass) Charters (2003); a sister Aldene Schriver and brothers Glenn, Dayle and Cecil Charters.

The family will receive condolences at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, on Monday February 17th from 5 to 8 PM. A celebration of Vaughan’s life will be held from Morning Gate Church, 74 Morning Gate Drive, on Tuesday, February 18th at 11AM with Rev. Dr. Brad Little and Rev. Deb MacDonald officiating.

Interment will take place at a later date in the Waasis Cemetery beside his beloved wife Charlene. Memorials to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Online condolences and the sharing of memories may be expressed through www.bishopsfuneralhome.com
