Obituary for Dorothy Plourde

It is with great sorrow that we the family of Dorothy "Dot" Plourde of Summerville, NB, announce her passing, which occurred at the Regional Hospital on February 16th, 2020. She was surrounded by loved ones. Born in Edmundston, NB, on May 21, 1942, she was the daughter of the late John and Alma (Turgeon) Plourde.

After graduating high school she worked as a seamstress, but her spirit sought out a higher calling so she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). She spent three years in pursuit of this dream as a Fighter COP before releasing.

During the exponential growth of women serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, she took it as a challenge to prove that a strong independent women could do any job in the military and spent 30 years proving that fact (1961 - 1964; 1967-1997). She served at base CFB GAGETOWN, CFB TRENTON, EGYPT, NDHQ OTTAWA, BFC MONTREAL, GREEN LONGUE POINTE, ST HUBERT and CFB GREENWOOD just to name a few. She also completed a UN tour in Ismalia. She showed so much promise in bossing people around she was sent to CFB COMOX as a Drill Sergeant.

Dorothy is survived by her sister Sonya (Peder) Pedersen, and brothers Mario (Ghislaine) Plourde, Hermel Plourde, Hervé Plourde, her sister-in-law Monique Plourde, brother-in-laws Norman Kenny, Maurice Couturier and many fabulous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was pre-deceased by her twin sister Shirley Lagacé, brothers Gilbert, Donald, Alban Plourde, sisters Jocelyne Kenny, Thérèse Couturier and sister-in-law Mona Martin.

The family invites you to join them for visitation from 10 until 1035 am at St. Bridget's Community Hall, Chapel Grove, NB, followed by a Legion Tribute prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at St Bridget's Catholic Church, which will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Following the Mass a reception will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #62, Moss Glen. Interment will take place at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Bridget's Catholic Church or Royal Canadian Legion would be appreciated.

We would like to express our thanks to the Doctors and Nurses of 5AN CCU for everything you have done for our Auntie Dot.
