Obituary for David Kelly

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of David Hendry Kelly, Thursday, March 26th at the Chalmers Hospital. Dave was born in Saint John in 1948 to Evelyn (Hendry) and Donald Kelly.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda (Hamill) Kelly, his children Jennifer Kelly-Milner (Will Milner) and Peter Kelly (Amanda Hughes), and his two beautiful granddaughters Molly Isabella Kelly and Olivia Madelynn Milner.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, as well as by his mother and father-in-law, Isabelle and Alfie Hamill.

Upon graduating from UNB with degrees in chemical engineering and law, he and Linda moved to Chicago where he was able to use both degrees in employment with Copeland Systems. They decided to return home after two years, and Dave set up a law practice. This he did as a well-respected lawyer for over 40 years in Fredericton and Oromocto.

Dave was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. In his spare time he loved to hunt, fish, golf and spend time in Florida with family and friends. He enjoyed many rounds of golf with special nephews Kerry and Scott Barker.

Dave was fiercely proud of his children, their accomplishments and the young adults and parents they have become. He also loved their choice of soul mates in life, and cherished them as his own. Dave’s favourite times were together with his family on the beach and by the pool, sharing a seat with his granddogs Roxy, Guinness and Bruin, or being entertained by his granddaughters who loved their Grampie (Gaga) immensely – they loved to tease each other, and no one brought out Dave’s fun-loving side like his little girls did! They will miss him greatly.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Richardson, his family physician and lifelong best friend, Dr. Cameron and the oncology staff, and palliative care. Also, a special thank you is extended to family and friends that supported our family via phone calls, messages and prayers the past week since social distancing is the mandate.

Due to the health crisis, we are unable to make funeral arrangements at this time. Personal condolences may be shared through Bishop’s Funeral Home.

For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
