Obituary for Ken Brown

With grateful hearts for a long and blessed life, the family of Ken Brown, of Sussex, announce his peaceful passing at home with family on April 7, 2020. Born in the brick house at the farm on the outskirts of Sussex on January 4, 1929, he was the first child and only son of Emery and Ethel (McQuinn) Brown.

Much of his life was spent on this farm where he grew up, surrounded by family and after marrying the love of his life, Pauline Gillies in 1952, life on the farm was always busy and with the birth of 7 children in 11 years there was much to do. He was a farmer, lumberman and businessman in the Sussex area. In 1987 he retired and after building a lovely new home in Sussex, with a great view, Ken and Pauline enjoyed many years of travel around the world and visits to family across Canada and the states.

Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Pauline (2019); son Donnie (1998); brother-in-law, George Walker and sister-in-law, Dorothy Gillies along with many other close relatives and friends.

He will live on in the hearts of his children: John (Nancy) of Riverview; Nancy Barnett (Ivan) of Cochrane, Alberta; Judy Stockdale-Dow (Don) of Sussex; Patsy Ste. Marie (Jeff) of London, Ont; David (Edith) of Sussex; Doug (Jackie) of Smith's Cove, N.S and daughter-in law Rollande Brown, Quebec. His 18 Grandchildren: Andrew (Leemor), Joanna (Guy), Peggy (James), Ryan (Julie), Anthony (Meghann), Korey, Paula (Tony), Lisa (Erik), Chad (Shannon), Nick (Tara), Kelly (Jarrett), Chris (Maite), Amy (Ethan), Mike, Breanna (Jacob), Heidi, Nathan, Marcus; eight great-grandchilden and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his sisters, Margaret (Irvine) Walker-Greer of Sussex and Joan (David) Morse of Newburyport, MA; special brother, Rev. Walter (MaryAnn) Ridley of Toronto and brother-in law, Donald Gillies of Sussex. Ken will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins along with a host of friends.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Sussex Silverados, Masonic Lodge and Shriners.

The family are especially thankful for the excellent care he received as a patient in Sussex Health Centre and for many years of thoughtful care through Extramural (special thanks to his nurse, Sue McFarland) and Dr. E. Philipps.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) and due to the COVID-19, will be held privately.

If you are considering making a memorial donation in memory of Ken, the family has recommended the charity of your choice. Condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com
