Obituary for Rosario "Chato" Pelley

Rosario "Chato" Asuncion Pelley (Cardona), passed away on June 27, 2020, at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Chato was born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was the daughter of the late Celestino and Aurea Cardona.

Chato is survived by Bern, her husband of 44 years; daughter Natalie (Kory Pike- Daniel and Chloe); son Jason; grandchildren, Isaac and Georgia. She is also survived by her sisters, Fe Cardona of Vermont, Leticia Acosta of Florida, Cleofe de Vera and brother Medardo (Ginette) Cardona of Montreal; sister-in-law Margarita in the Philippines, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother Francisco Cardona.

Chato graduated Maryknoll College, Manila, where she earned an Economics Degree. She came to Montreal in 1973 and began a 25 year career with TD Bank, taking time off in the middle to be a stay at home mom. She retired in 2016, in Dartmouth, NS.

Chato was fortunate to have travelled the world, travelling to the sun in places like Barbados and Cayman Islands with Bern, and Europe with her sister Fe. Throughout her life she enjoyed volunteering, workout programs, dancing, attending her son's and later her grandson's hockey games, and granddaughter's dance classes. She loved time spent with her grandchildren and long days in her flower garden.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral service will be held in St. Peter Parish with interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when travel rules permit.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Myeloma Canada.

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and staff of 8.1 at the Halifax Infirmary, 9.2 at the Abbie Lane and 6.1 at the Halifax Infirmary.
