I had first met my beautiful bride at a concert event in Coronado park. Our churches singles group decided to meet there for a barbeque. Another brother in Christ had invited me to come along and join the festivites. When we arrived some of the group had already set up their chairs and paired off. I was listening to the band who were playing some great Steely Dan tunes, and watching couples get up and dance. Out of the corner of my eye I saw this beautiful brunette coming across the grass with her chair which she placed a short distance away from the rest of the group. She seemed alone and looking around at the others who were talking and laughing. I felt bad for her so I walked up and introduced myself and asked her, "do you dance?" and she replied, "No, I don't!" so I said, "You do now!" and exteneded my hand towards her. She grabbed my hand and I pulled her up and moved up to the the front of the gazebo and took her hand and twirled her around and we danced the afternoon away! At the end of the concert I politely walked her to her car where we exchanged phone numbers. Three weeks had passed and I did not call Pam. One afternoon the phone rang at my apartment. I answered, "hello?" "Is this Daniel?" a female voice resounded like a church bell! "Yes, I said!" "Do you remember me?" " I think so." "You think so, well I'm Pam Kirby and you got me to dance with you at the concert in coronado." "Oh", I said. "I remember now!" She retorted, "Why didn't you call me?" I said, "Uh, I don't know?" "Well if you weren't going to call me, why did you take my number?" I had no reply. There was a very long awkward pause. Then Pam said, "Well, what are you going to do? I thought for a moment and replied, "Uh, Pam would you like to go to dinner?' "When!" she said. "Umm, how about saturday?" "What time?" her voice becoming more forceful. "How about seven?" "Fine!", "Where are we going?" This was becoming more and more interesting as I became curious about the tone of her voice but yet I was also fascinated. "How about Applebee's?" I said, even more sheepishly, my brain trying to figure out if she was mad at me for not calling her...duh! Or was she just trying to teach me a lesson in civility. Another pause, and then, "fine!" she said. I was debating inside of my head, "wow!" this woman is really agressive...cool!" And the other part of me sounding off all kinds of alarms beeping out a warning that this girl is crazy, run! I threw up a short pray and asked God to give me an answer and before I could process what had just transpired in the last minute or so, you know, to try to find the right answer, she popped off once more. "Are you going to show up?" I said with quiet confidence, "yes, I will!" Then with out another word she hung up. I gently set down the phone, then looked up and said, "Oh, Lord, what have I done?" At that moment I felt my heart get all warm and squishy and I knew that the falling off was there!
