Life was an Adventure

Gil and I were fraternity brothers at Amherst College.  He was nicknamed:   " Boy " .  He was a varsity wrestler, I'm going to guess at 147. We travelled together several times between Amherst and our Michigan homes. Once we hitchhiked back to Michigan.  There was a time when we drove together from Amherst to Montreal on a dare. The virtually nonstop journey started about midnight.  We were in a Montreal cafeteria briefly at the first light of dawn.  We  kept the stubs from our breakfast meal to prove to the skeptics we'd met our dare. Back to the College by late morning.

In our AD fraternity house we had a large commons room -  maybe 30' by 50" - with a high ceiling and molding at the tops of the walls.  There was maybe 1/2 inch of space between the top of the molding and the ceiling.  Only Gil could conceive it a challenge to suspend himself from the molding with the tips of his fingers and circumnavigate the entire room by a form of " handwalking". I can still see him completing this feat which I  would think has never been duplicated.

Thanks to Gil's family for the chance to share these recollections.
