Sally Fanton died of cancer at her home in Longmont, Colorado on Friday, April 14. Sally was born in Wray, Colorado to Orril L. Cuney and Eleanor McLaughlin Cuney. She grew up in Loveland and graduated from Loveland High School in 1956. She received a B.A. degree in education from the University of Colorado in 1960. She also received a M.A. in education there in 1980.
Sally was married to Fred Fanton on September 11, 1960 in Loveland. They celebrated their 56th anniversary in 2016.
Sally taught English in middle school and high school for 26 years, many of those years in School District 50 in Westminster, Colorado, retiring from Ranum High School in 1999.
In retirement, she most enjoyed any family gathering with her children and grandchildren present. She also enjoyed travel, reading, quilting and volunteer work.
Sally was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont, Chi Omega Sorority, and the American Association of University Women.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; son Andy of Golden; daughter Betsy (Paul) of Golden, and four grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Becky Harper (Ed) of Fort Collins; and Kathy Cuney (Fred Witt) of La Mesa California.
A private graveside service will be held at Ryssby Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1000 West 15th Avenue, Longmont, CO on Thursday, April 20, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sally’s name may be given to your favorite charity or to a fund in her name at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
