Memories of Orman

The thing that I remember most about Orman was that he was always busy building or making something, and he had an amazing ability to figure out how things worked. He built three houses from scratch and made extensive renovations and additions to two more. He built a boat, a 9-hole golf course, and a saw that cut logs into 4 x 4's. He built a frame and hydraulic system for a front bucket loader for a Caterpillar tractor, which he used to excavate stones for a retaining wall I helped him build one summer. He rigged up an old pickup truck to drive a pump to irrigate an apple orchard. After he retired from the airline, he built a stunt airplane that was powered by propane and flew it frequently. He loved both snow and water skiing, and liked to play golf, but I think he was happiest when building or fixing something.
