Obituary for Samuel Jacobs

Samuel Jacobs, 83, entered the arms of his Savior in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 2, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Sam was born July 6, 1933 in Winooski, VT to Louis Michael and Mary (Nicholas) Jacobs. He attended local schools, graduating from Winooski High School in 1952. He then enlisted in the Army, finishing his career in the Vermont Army National Guard. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1993.
On November 3, 1956, he wed the love of his life, Ellen Newell and they were married for 61 years. He was intensely devoted to their five children, and had the privilege of knowing and loving his nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his children, Lisa (Jacobs) Miles and husband Lawrence of Colchester, David and Victoria (Shields) Jacobs of Fort Covington, NY, Samuel Jacobs of Springfield, VT, Michael Jacobs and Lauren Kelley of Essex Junction, and Mark and Beth (Paparella) Jacobs of Essex Junction. His grandchildren include Travis and Lauren Miles, Andrew and Julia Miles, Emily and T. J. Sorrentine, Joshua and Alyssa Jacobs, Samuel A. and Thomas Jacobs, Jonah, Elijah and Anna Jacobs.
He is also survived by a sister, Anna (Jacobs) Wilson. Her late husband, Col. William Wilson who was his best friend in life. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Abraham and Ruth (Forrest) Jacobs of Middlebury, VT.
Sam was a regular attendee of the Essex Alliance Church. He participated in and led many home Bible studies, and was active in the men’s group. He loved and appreciated his church family.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be given to Bayada Hospice Foundation or the Essex Alliance Church attention Cindy Mann.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held at the Essex Alliance Church, located at 37 Old Stage Road, Essex Junction, VT on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 1:00 pm. Arrangements are under the care of LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, condolences may be shared at www.lavignefuneralhome.com.
