Obituary for Humberto Cruz Cabanas

Humberto Cruz  Cabanas
Humberto “Bert” Cabanas, 87, passed away May 3rd after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Bert was born in Calexico, CA and lived most of his life in San Diego. He was the son of the late Lorenzo and Carmen Cabanas. Bert attended Hoover High School and then joined the Army becoming a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. After he completed his service in the Army he returned to San Diego, married Claudia Bryan and started a long career at United Parcel Service. Bert was a graduate of San Diego State University. Bert was predeceased by his wife Claudia and son Mark. He is survived by his sisters Lydia Cabanas Lewis and Maria Cabanas Long (Steven), daughter Debra (Sara), son Michael, grandson Brandon Cabanas and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion of many years Judith Morgan and her family.
Bert loved sports and coached many teams when his children were young. He especially enjoyed golfing, archery, and horseback riding including participation in the Desert Caballeros Ride in Wickenburg, Arizona for more than ten years. He also loved summers spent at his home in Dolores, Colorado.
The family would like to thank his caregivers at La Vida Real, Seaport Hospice and his medical provider Christina Hinckley for the wonderful care and compassion Bert received in the past two years.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at East County Mortuary, 374 N. Magnolia Avenue, El Cajon, California. Immediately following the service, the burial will take place at Singing Hills Memorial Park in El Cajon, California with a reception to follow at Hartland Masonic Lodge #576 in El Cajon, California.
