John McEachern
Dear Robin and Jessica,
John and I had a special bond as landscape architects. We enjoyed each other’s company while we were working at the FERC. We took long walks at lunch and talked about the environment, family and our dreams. I wanted a coffee or fruit farm on the Big Island of Hawaii and he wanted a pecan orchard in Texas. After I quit the FERC and returned to the private sector developing properties I would invite John to visit my projects in Virginia and in DC. We would walk around the properties and trade thoughts on how we would develop them. He had a great eye for sensitively developing properties and blending the land with the architecture. We had fun playing golf since both of us were great at losing balls and our primary goal was to take a walk in the park. He was so proud of Jessica and her ability to play the piano. He would also talk about how lucky he was to have found such a wonderful wife. A topic he always enjoyed was his Irish heritage. He explained to me how his surname Costello arrived in Ireland as part of the 12th Century Anglo Norman invasion. John Patrick will be missed always. We had planned an Italian lunch on my next trip back to DC. I wish I had just one more time to say hello.
