Obituary for Rusty Cromer

Rusty Cromer
Mr. James Russell “Rusty” Cromer, 59, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Tucker Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial service will be 3 PM Saturday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Morris officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Born January 21, 1958 in Anderson, SC, Rusty was the beloved son of the late James R. “Bob” Cromer and Anna Bryan Cromer. He was also preceded in death by his step-son, Tommy Pressley. Rusty was independent, intrepid, and always ready for adventure. He loved being in the great outdoors, camping, fishing and hiking, and enjoyed gardening. Whether relaxing in the North Carolina mountains or at the coast, Rusty was a man who loved his family above all and enjoyed making sweet memories with them. He was a graduate of UNC-Wilmington and worked for Williams Scotsman for many years. A talented gourmet cook, he also manned the grill at family gatherings and knew how to “burn” the hot dogs just like we liked them! Rusty was a friend to both people and animals, a one-of-a-kind man with a big heart. While his earthly time with us was much too short, we will always cherish our precious memories of a man who was “rich in love”.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Cromer, and son, Casey Cromer and fiancée Amber Wilhoit, of the home; sister, Jane Bigham of Concord; brothers, Bryan Cromer and wife Vickie of Forest City, Steve Cromer and wife Cherita of Concord, Randy Cromer of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Mary Pressley of Concord; sister-in-laws, Donna Cress and Pat Romefelt of Concord; brother-in-law, Bill Spradley and wife Jerri of Norwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
