Obituary for Peggie W. Barnes

Peggie W. Barnes, 63, of Stony Creek (Old Hickory), passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the Medical College of Virginia. She was born December 11, 1953, to the late Judson E. and Frances Evelyn Newton Wright and was preceded in death by three sisters, Ellen Duffer, Lois W. Bowden, and Diane Wright. Peggie was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in Sussex County, Virginia and Beta Sigma Phi. She retired from Dinwiddie Middle School after many years as a Librarian. Peggie is survived by her loving husband, Charles E. “Chuck” Barnes; two sons, Charles Russell Barnes and wife, Amy, Jason Ryan Barnes and wife, Lindsay; grandchildren, Jackson Avery Barnes, Berkleigh Allison Barnes, and Eric W. Robertson; brother, Curtis Wright and wife, Cindy; sister, Tina M. Newton and husband, Bernie; step-sister; Bonnie Patterson, numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Dianne Bishop and her husband, Cracker. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Concord United Methodist Church, 18591 Concord Sappony Rd, Stony Creek, Virginia 23882 with the Reverend Brian Simmons and the Reverend Amos Rideout Jr., officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 5, 2017, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Thomas Palliative Care Unit Massey Cancer Center, 401 College Street Box 980037, Richmond, Virginia 23298-0037, or to the Concord United Methodist Church.
