After a courageous battle it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dean Paulicelli, a true Transcona legend. Dean is survived by his wife Kim, son Chad and daughter Shayna (Mark), brothers Phillip (Linda), Michael (Leanne), sister Leanne (Kevin), nephews Erik (Hayley), Noah and nieces Jessie and Lauryn.
Dean lived in Transcona his entire life and growing up, loved track and field and playing baseball. He worked at CNR for 37 years and was able to enjoy retirement for the past 3 years. He will be fondly remembered at many of his favorite pit stops that included Joe’s for morning coffee, Dal’s for some “pie” or Szeto’s for some “sizzle”. Over the years Dean made special friendships at every stop along the way. One of his greatest passions was gardening and he loved that his family and friends could reap the benefits of all the vegetables he grew each year. He would often deliver a bag of tomatoes, beans or fresh dug potatoes on his route each day. Dean was known as the "Coupon King". One would just mention an item or ailment and he would find a coupon to give them often times delivering it right to their door. Dean spent many hours printing off coupons and studying the weekly flyers before making his, sometimes daily, visits to Superstore. He was known for his delicious homemade cooking. Many enjoyed his pizzas at hockey parties, ribs at family dinners and his one of kind homemade soups. His music playlist included Dean Martin, Metallica, Frank Zappa and Black Sabbath but most of all he loved listening to Shayna sing and always showed off her CD demo tracks to anyone he could.
Dean's hockey card collection and memorabilia was a true passion. He was the ultimate sports fan and enjoyed running many hockey and football pools. He loved to give tips on Pro Line picks and looked forward to NFL Sunday and Monday night games. If you ever had a question on any stats or moments in sports history Dean would more than likely have the answer. Many of Chad and Shayna's friends will remember Dean as their soccer coach growing up.
A big thank you to the Health Science Centre staff who took such great care of Dean during the many stays at the hospital over the summer.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Pandora Inn (103 Bond Street) on Sunday September 24th from 2-6pm.
Dean's big heart kept him going the past 3 years. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
To quote Dean’s favorite saying “God Bless … See you next day".
