The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of John MacLaurin can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

John Mac- 50 years a friend!

First met John almost 50 years ago when he crashed in my dad and I in a Lido 14 race in Marina Del Rey. he was on port and we were on starboard.... damd that guy got excited when it happened!

He looked semi stunned-threw out some choice colorful language into the air. but a consumate gentleman and sportsman who admitted fault and was always a great competitor.

John was always the wisest guy in the room and never afraid to provide you advice -wheter you needed it or not! As a kid I looked up to him and over the course of decades, he always had kind words when we met at yacht clubs for local races. He was one of those owners who brought a lot of folks into the sport and was surrounded by a very loyal team of friends. He will be missed by many. I just heard about this passing- he and my dad are talking sailing stories in Heaven!

John's vision for a fast 52' sailboat he and Susie named Pendragon in about 2000 gave birth to the wildly successful Transpac 52 Class which has globally transformed the face of grand prix monohull racing. Today, over 90 of these $$ carbon fiver racing machines have been built and without him building a prototype TP52- who knows if it the whole thing would have gotten off the ground!  To that- we own him an eternal debt of gratitude.

See you on the other side
