Leroy Mitchell, Sr. of Edgard, La. at his residence on October 18,2017 entered into eternal rest with his family at his bedside. Beloved husband of Brenda Raphael Mitchell. Loving father of Terrance Morton, Lancaster, TX, Rachelle (Michael Sr.) Foley of Marrero, LA, Leroy Jr.(Sonja) of LaPlace, LA, Kyle (Tara) Mitchell Sr. of Baton Rouge, LA, Grandfather of Rachael(Derek), Michael Jr, Zaki, Katelyn, Kyle Jr, Kaleb, Ronnie, Michelle and Amy. Great grandfather of Michael lll, Ramone, Bryson, Cailey, and Rachon. Brother of Debra, Elaine(Tommy), Harry Sr.(Lillian), Ridgley Jr. (Daisy), Patrick Sr. (Acquanette), Rev. Blair Sr. (Stella), and Brian (Doreen) also survived by 2 godchildren a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents Ridgley and Ethel Mitchell, a brother Nathaniel Mitchell and a grandson Marcus Antonio Foley. Leroy received his early education in St. James Public School System where he excelled in Mathematics, Graphic Arts and Woodworking. He received an academic scholarship to Hampton Institute which is now Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. After leaving Hampton he followed the career path of two older brothers and joined the U.S. Army where he traveled to Bitburg, Germany and was a communication specialist. After receiving an honorable discharge, he taught Math and Industrial Arts for a short time at Magnolia High School in Vacherie La. He was later employed at Union Carbide in Taft, LA, where he remained for 30 + years. He also served on the St. John Parish School Board District 1 for 13 years. He was also a member of the Board for St. John Council on Aging. In addition, he was employed with St. John Parish Sheriff Dept. under Sheriff Wayne Jones where he instituted the Cop-of-Tea program for St. John seniors. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday October 28, 2017 at 11:00am from the Second African Baptist Church, 136 West 3rd St. Edgard, LA, Pastor Clarence Z. Mollaire officiating. Visitation at the church at 9:00am with a final viewing prior to service time. Entombment St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery Mausoleum, Edgard, La.
