Roy Fierro Obituary

 

 

It is with great sadness and fond memories that the family of Roy G. Fierro announces his passing Tuesday, November 20, 2017 at the age of 95.

Roy was born Oct. 9, 1922 in Tucson, Arizona as the oldest of 12 children.  He joined the army in 1942 and served with his unit known as The Red Ball Express during WW II as a Corporal until 1945. The people of France awarded him the Liberty Medal for his participation in the Invasion of Normandy before meeting and marrying Amelia and starting a family. Roy was a long time resident of National City where he participated in local commerce by founding and operating businesses in San Diego County since the 1950s.

Roy will be remembered as a strong and generous man who was fondly called “Chief” by many.  He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Amelia and his children Frances (George) Reynolds of National City, Roy (Connie) of Ramona and Roy (Carol) of Dallas, Texas.  He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren Adam Vazquez, Elaine Vazquez-Rodriguez, Gena Vazquez, Joshua Reynolds, Ezra Fierro, Israel Fierro, Jake Fierro, Joey Garza, Austin Garza, Elliott Garza and Aiden Fierro as well as many cherished great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Roy also leaves behind his brother Steven, his sisters Lupe, Mary and Frances as well many extended family members including his beloved brother-in-law David Martinez.

The visitation and celebration of his life will be Tuesday, November 28th, 4:00pm - 9:00pm, with a clergy service at 6:30 at Community Mortuary, 855 Broadway in Chula Vista. He will be buried with military honors at 2:00 p.m. on Wed. Nov. 29 at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego.

His family would like to thank the people of Kindred Hospice who provided care and assistance to him over the last 18 months.
