All of you who knew Ellen will appreciate this early memory I have of my niece, it shows her character never changed. 72 years ago Ellen and her cousin Betty McCallum were flower girls at my sister Lily's wedding.
Walking demurely down the aisle, dressed in beautiful long blue dresses with matching bonnets, Ellen caught sight of her Uncle Jackie McCallum, calling out to him she sang out "You canna catch me for a big bumbee" the whole congregation were in fits of laughter. That was Ellen.
