The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Don Bennett can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

"The Good Old Days"

I first met Don Bennett, I believe in 1972 or possibly 1973. We were subcontracting the curb and gutter on the Valley View Mall parking lot project from Southwestern Contracting. I dont recall Don'e title at the time, it could have been vice-president or general superintentent. I remember him checking on my crew to see if we needed anything to complete our tasks. i conveyed to him that they had laid the asphalt in areas where it impeded us from pouring our curb and gutter, and that we could use an air compressor and jack hammer with spade to remove it. The next thing i knew, the biggest air compressor I had ever witnessed was delivered for our use to remove the exra asphalt. It was more than what we could have ever needed or expected, but that was the way Don and Southwestern Contractors helped their sub-contractors. Over the many years since, I have gotten to know and work with Don, but also his sons, Gary and Jerry theough working on many projects through their busines Brazos Valley Construction. I have nothing but praise and respect for the entire Benenett Family. They work with pride and integrity. Don will be missed but never forgotten.

May God bless the Bennett familyin this time of sorrow.

All the best,

Glenn Thurman and the GTI organization
