Obituary for Raymond Scott Sabin

Raymond Scott Sabin
Raymond Scott Sabin, age 53, peacefully passed away June 7, 2018 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Scott was born January 11, 1965 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Robert J and Kathleen Nelson Sabin. He is survived by his two daughters, Haley Joy Sabin and Hannah Cheyenne Sabin, his father Robert J. Sabin and his four siblings, Deborah Bennion (Layne), Robert Von (Becky), David Brian (Judy), and Gregory Mark (Lynette). His mother, Kathleen Sabin, preceded him in death.
Scott grew up in Las Cruces and created a strong life-long bond of friendship with many. As a friend of Scott’s, life was never dull. There are hundreds of “Scott stories” that have been told and retold.
After graduating from Las Cruces High School, Scott served an LDS mission in Florida. He earned his MBA from New Mexico State University and soon after began his career as a Special Agent for the IRS from 1993-2011. Scott married Sharon Judd in September of 2001 in the Salt Lake Temple. Scott’s greatest joy was the adoption of their two girls, Haley and Hannah.
Scott was a master at and had a passion for making things happen, which served him well as a missionary, in his career with the IRS, and living life fully with family and friends. Scott was highly competitive and loved winning, especially when it involved chasing and nabbing the “bad guys”. He was an avid sports fan, and from a young age an ardent fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Basketball and tennis were sports he enjoyed playing and watching. He fulfilled a dream of attending all four tennis Grand Slams when he attended the Australian Open in January.
Poor health limited many of Scott’s abilities in recent years. Two open heart surgeries, two broken necks, and other health challenges could not break Scott’s sense of humor or his love to have fun. Motivated by love for his daughters, his family and close friends, he chose to push onward even when the limitations of his physical body made life difficult and seemingly impossible. The family is grateful for the many friends and caregivers who supported Scott the past few months.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 16 at 11 AM at the LDS building on 2915 E. Idaho Street, Las Cruces. Prior to the service, a viewing will be held from 9:30-10:45.
