This is taken from the family book
"When we arrived in Cornwallis, the first thing that happened when we got off the bus, was we were told to empty our suit cases on the grass in front of the building that we were going to live in. The military sergeants then went through our belongings and took out all sharp objects, including knives, straight razors, and even safety razors. Then we packed up our things and went to our bed spaces. Imagine 40 young boys staying in one room. Then we went to get our uniforms. As they handed me mine, I noticed that I was getting an army uniform and told them this. All they said at the time all they said was "that is what you are supposed to get". When I got back to the barracks I asked the Sergeant why I got an army uniform, and he told me it was because I was in the army. I said I thought going to be a crewman, and he said "Ya, a crewman on a tank". That was the biggest joke around the barracks for a long time."
